The Role

The post-holder will assist the See Learn Transform Co-Ordinator, and Lead Support Person, to deliver practical and emotional support to young people and Adults at Risk in both an indoor and outdoor setting to support learning. Our Learners may have, or are suffering from, learning, social, emotional, mental health and behavioural issues. The post can include working with issues such as emotional and/or physical abuse, learning or behavioural difficulties, psychological or physiological disorders and/or school related problems.

This post is to work with a particular learner on the days specified on a 1:1 basis. Experience or knowledge of fishing and Safeguarding is essential for this post. The ability to offer land-based skills such as wildlife monitoring, habitat management or practical woodworking skills are desirable. The post-holder must also have some experience in working with young people and adults at risk to provide a nurturing and caring experience for Learners and to support them in achieving their goals. The post holder must either hold a personal DBS or be confident that the Trust can obtain one for them. Previous experience of working with ages 16-adult is preferred.

Core Responsibilities

We require you to understand and demonstrate this commitment and to:

  • To work on a 1:1 basis to provide fishing support and assist in delivery of land based skills.
  • Assist in ensuring the welfare and safety of Learners and comply with all policies of the Sustainable Land Trust, hereafter referred to as SLT, as outlined in the Staff Handbook
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records including services users' portfolio of evidence
  • Assist in executing identified activities for Learners appropriate to their learning needs
  • Contribute in creating teaching documentation such Schemes of Work, Lesson Plans, recording progress towards outcomes etc.
  • Contribute to a whole team approach in developing best practice across SEND delivery
  • Understand the confidential nature of EHCPs and/or ILPs and to use this information appropriately
  • Assist in mentoring, coaching and supporting services users using a person-centred approach to develop trust and good relationships and to encourage greater social inclusion whilst at the same understanding the need to pass on any required information to the SLT Co-Ordinator and/or CEO
  • Contribute to any internal and external quality assurance practices
  • Assist in providing information on the development of each service user's half term reports
  • Report any concerns relating to the health, well-being, safety and safeguarding of any young person or adult at risk as quickly as possible to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or the appropriate body/ partner/ organisation; Safeguarding Training will be provided
  • Assist in creating a culture of positive behaviour whilst ensuring Learners observe the rules of the SLT around other businesses and residential properties in and around Burrough Court or off-site areas
  • Assist in creating calmness in challenging situations in a variety of settings, both on and off site, and support any identified needs related to areas such as health, fitness, smoking, drugs, gangs, violence, relationships and bullying - this is to be balanced by the need to be self-aware and the call for help in any situation that you are unfamiliar or uncomfortable with and not put yourself unnecessarily at risk. Training can be provided to support you
  • Contribute towards a whole team approach to create positive staff role models through appearance and conduct
  • Assist in providing Learners with key life skills such as communication, social interaction, public engagement, problem solving, confidence building, health and wellbeing etc
  • Attend appropriate field trips and projects as directed both on and off site as required
  • Use a good level of IT to access, update and save necessary files using Office 365
  • Contribute to working in partnership with professionals from other organisations
