The Role

Work with managers and care staff to deliver a high standard of care to all Service Users in a safe environment and considering their personal, emotional, physical and cultural needs and preferences whilst respecting their dignity, privacy and independence. Duties will include administering medication, supervising the work of care assistants on duty and to ensure that all activities are completed competently. Additionally participate in care planning reviews and liaising with families and friends of service users to develop a trusting relationship.

The ideal candidate will be looking to develop a career within Health and Social Care and will already have at least an NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care.

Key Responsibilities

Supervision

Co-ordinate and supervise the work of care assistants

  • Ensure care assistants fulfil their responsibilities and deliver high quality of care that fully meets service user's needs.
  • Ensure there is good communication between staff and team work.
  • Ensure smooth running of the shift.
  • Ensure all records are kept up to date and in the correct place.

Provide Personal Care

Give personal care to service user's inline with the agreed care plans

  • Maintain choice, privacy, dignity and independence of service users
  • Establish a relationship with all residents, listen and talk with them to encourage mental stimulation
  • Attend to the residents personal hygiene needs, e.g. bathing, hair care, visits to the toilet, including the use and emptying of commode, dealing with incontinence and catheter bags.
  • Help to make sure that the residents dietary needs are met
  • Help residents with mobility problems and other physical disabilities, whether this is with the use of aid appliances or not.
  • Assist residents who need help with dressing, undressing and eating.
  • Give practical assistance, if required, with the use of talking books, cassette recorders and other specialist aids and equipment.

Help in the running of the care home

Ensure a comfortable environment is maintained

  • Ensure all records are kept up to date and in the correct place.
  • Make and change beds, tidy rooms, cleaning and empty commodes.
  • Inspect, launder and mend resident's clothes. Sluice, wash, dry and pack up soiled linen as required. Receive, check, sort and distribute linen from laundry.
  • Set table trays, serve meals and drinks and prepare light snacks. Wash up, tidy, clean and clear the dinning room.
  • Answer the door and the telephone and treat all visitors cordially.

Health and Safety

Ensure health and safety requirements are met

  • Carry out effective care procedures in line with health and safety requirements
  • Report faults and hazards
  • Test equipment before use
  • Adhere to the Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Ensure that infection control procedures are carried out effectively
  • Ensure stocks of material are maintained and stored appropriately
