Provision:
FTM Dance is a Performing Arts respite service for children and adults with additional needs, disabilities and medical conditions, aged 3 years old and above. FTM Dance provides performing arts and creative art related activities, sessions and workshops for individuals with a range of needs and abilities, including those with Autism, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, epilepsy and behaviours that challenge. FTM Dance provides services within the local community in schools and community settings, alongside providing outreach services for local nurseries, schools and care homes etc.

Support Assistant Roles:

Support assistant within FTM Dance facilitate and support individuals to access our sessions, activities and workshops (e.g. dance, drama, music, arts) and other community related events/activities. Support assistant provide both current and newly referred individuals with high quality support and care, in line with FTM Dance values (creative, caring and person centred) and their policies and procedures.

Supporting the provision through care and support of individuals:

  • Supporting individuals in accessing FTM Dance provisions such as sessions, activities and workshops and supporting their independence, choices, communication, positive relationships and participation, through encouragement, creative thinking and support.
  • Transporting and/or supporting transport, or travel training where required to meet the needs of the individuals to further support access to the provision.
  • Supporting individuals in their preferred style of communication
  • Supporting individuals in their personal care tasks and routines, such as toileting, dressing, showering, commode emptying, fluid and nutrition etc
  • Supporting individuals in health related tasks, such as gastrostomy, emergencymedication and respiratory care etc.
  • Supporting individuals in their times of needs and crisis points, where verbal de-escalation and positive handling intervention is necessary and proportionate to the risks.
  • Ensuring high levels of hand hygiene, infection control etc. is maintained for staff and individuals.
  • At all times promote and ensure a high standard of person centred care and positive reputation of FTM Dance
  • At all times adhering to all policies, procedures and systems to ensure a high level of service and care (e.g. Health and Safety, Risk Assessment, Safeguarding etc.).

Supporting the provision in recording and reporting duties:

  • Writing and where required editing/updating shift records through an IT system (e.g. Tapestry) surrounding the individuals' activities and care information for the duration they are with us (e.g. activities they participated in, fluid and nutrition, changes of behaviour etc), in line with FTM Dance's policies and procedures
  • Attending, engaging and contributing to briefings and debriefings and highlighting any areas of of concerns, where appropriate
  • Updating individuals handover documents to ensure a high level of continuity of care is maintained throughout the team.
  • Reporting any issues or concerns (e.g. safety, accidents, safeguarding, changes of behaviour, whistleblowing etc.) to the relevant members, in a timely manner.
  • Recording and reporting accidents and injuries, using the appropriate system.
  • Recording and reporting any incidents of behaviours that challenge or where positivehandling intervention has occurred.
  • Seeking appropriate help, advice and support from the appropriate team member/s,where required.
  • Recording and reporting to the appropriate person/s any damage to equipment orproperty, alongside recording and reporting limited supplies (e.g. gloves, aprons etc).m

Domestic and other related tasks:

  • General cleaning duties such as light cleaning and mopping, discarding of waste, clearing up spillages etc.
  • Supporting the team in setting up the rooms/venues, so it is suitable, safe and fit for purpose, alongside ensuring PPE (gloves, aprons etc.) are accessible in facilities (rooms, bathrooms/changing places)
  • Supporting individuals with money management (e.g. purchasing lunch etc), and recording this information appropriately.
  • Attending, engaging and contributing to staff meetings and various forms of communication (e.g. WhatsApp, Facebook etc.), including regularly checking messages and email communication, notifications and notices etc.

Professional development:

  • Attending and contributing to own supervisions and appraisals
  • Attending and understanding training and CPD opportunities and confidently carrying out the theory and practical elements from the training within the role.

Person Specification

Qualifications:

There are no specific qualifications required for this position as support workers are provided with mandatory training such as Health and Safety etc., alongside individual needs specific training where required e.g. epilepsy awareness and moving and handling to complete the tasks required for the individual. It is preferred that applicants are working towards or have achieved a relevant Health and Social Care or Performing Arts related qualification (e.g. Health and Social Care Level 2 or 3 or BTEC Level 3 Performing Arts etc.). This can also be working towards or have achieved a degree in Health and Social Care and Performing Arts related studies.

Experience:

There is no specific experience required to be a support assistant, though experience working or volunteering in a care or support capacity is preferred. For example, applicants who support a family friend, volunteering at a charity or supporting development within a 1:1 or classroom environment etc.

Other:

It is preferred that applicants have a clean driving license, to share the role of transporting service users in FTM Dance vehicles, to enable individuals to access our provision. Where applicants do not drive, they may be supported to learn to travel train individuals using public transport to access our provision, or support transport via supervising individuals who require supervision in a vehicle. It is essential that applicants are flexible in supporting at alternative locations, where it is required to meet the needs of the individuals and the nature of organisation (e.g. Leicester, Loughborough, Melton Mowbray).

FTM Dance is committed to the safeguarding and protection of service users health and wellbeing. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and this means that any criminal conviction, including spent convictions, must be made known at the time of the application. This post is subject to a DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to fulfil safer recruiting when working with children and vulnerable adults.This post is also subject to two professional references or three character references to fulfil safer recruitment.

Note: this role profile is not exhaustive and there may be times where you will be required to undertake other duties, to meet the needs of our service users and the nature of our organisation (social care).

Rate of pay:

National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage on a Self-Employed Freelance basis.

Hours:
Weekend work available from December 2019 and onwards on Saturday's and Sunday's in Leicester.

Week day work on a Thursday and Friday in Leicester is sometimes available.

Additional hours available on a Saturday in Loughborough.

Salary: £4.55-£8.72 per hour
